7 corys,6 lemon tetras, a single bolivian ram, and two gold danios in a 29 gallon tall? its overfiltered with 2 20-30 gallon over the back filters and has a airstone. i keep up weekly 20-30% water changes, ph is 7.0, water is fairly soft.

the tank currently has 5 lemon tetras, i want to add one to two more to fill out the school. 1 bolivian ram, i dont want a pair to keep agression down, and its a mixed school of corys(all same size, i got them before i knew you needed to keep the same type in a school, mostly jullis and one bronze and one leapord, they all school), and 7 seems to be a good number for my tank and they all get along. the only downside to my tank right now is the tetras are a bit skiddish cause there are only 5, and that none of my fish visit the top 12" of the tank...

so, i was thinking of adding 2 gold danios, pretty top fish and everyone says they do fine in a pair.

anyway, anyone have thoughts?

I would dump the danios and add more Corydoras and tetras. The cories are all probably fine now, but they'll be even better off when there are more in the tank. You have three species and the chance to buy more of them, so why not take the opportunity?

"so, i was thinking of adding 2 gold danios, pretty top fish and everyone says they do fine in a pair."

Everyone? If you are referring to our profile on the pearl danio, it is in need of updating. Danios as I know them are schooling or shoaling fish like tetras, and greatly benefit from being kept in large groups. They often become nervous and irritable when housed in low numbers, and may resort to nipping at the other fish. I'll admit that I am not a fan of danios in the first place, and am biased against their inclusion on stocklists.

The lemon tetras don't swim near the surface now, but they may be afraid of venturing up that far. Do you have any plants or decorations that reach close to the water's surface? If not, the addition of these will likely embolden the tetras. I find that they are more comfortable with areas where cover is available than in open water.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

thanks sir. i was refering to about 5 websites i have visited BESIDES this, they all said 2 or more...and also two of my friends said a pair was fine.

i dont have any floating plants on the top cause the twin filters make a lil bit of a current and i have no experience with floating plants, dunno which would work well....however i have plants that go all the way to the top of the tank.

untill i can do more research and get more opinions i will wait on the gold danios, and in the mean time add a couple more lemon tetras and see if they venture farther up in the tank. if they do, i will add another tetra or two and forget the danios.

now, as far as the corys go, i dont think i want to give them all full schools, my bottom would be too over crowded. with the ram and the corys its already way too busy. if they acted unhappy i would give, trade,or sell the leapord and the broze. however, all my corys school together, are very outgoing, appear quite happy, and they all sleep together...they either snuggle up in the cave or pick a rock formation or drift wood and sleep at various times during the day or at night.

anyway, ill add a couple more tetras, see if they venture more towards the top.

Forget the Danios & add more Lemon Tetras. As for the Corydoras, they like to be in a school & from the same species & not different ones. Try to get some Julii Corydoras, as they are quite nice. The Ram will be fine on it's own or in a pair.

okies, no danios, adding two more lemon tetras, and i am aware they like to be of the same type, but its a school of 5 juliis with a bronze corydora and leapord corydora, both of which i am very attached to and dont want to get rid of. they all school together well and enjoy eachothers company, so i think i will leave the corys alone for now.

so, i am thinking of adding two lemon tetras to my school of 5. if they still dont want to make their way up to the surface, then i might add a single dwarf gourami.

full stock then would be 1 bolivian ram, 1 dwarf gourami,7 lemon tetras, and 7 corys.

that shouldnt be overstocking i hope, the corys are happy, the lemons should be happy, and the ram should be as well, and if the lemon tetras still wont go to the surface even if the school is larger, the gourami should be happy cause he will have the top 12" of the tank, lol.
