I am finally starting to stock my tank. It is 65 US gallons. This is what I have in there at the moment.

6 serpae tetra
6 bleeding heart tetra
12 red-tailed rasbora (rasbora borapetensis)
1 RTB shark (not agressive)

This is what I am thinking of finishing off with, do you think it will be overstocked?

2 serpae tetra
2 bleeding heart tetra
2 rams
3 khulie loaches

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry, in my previous post I said 3 khulie loaches, I meant to say 3 zebra loaches. I have loaches on the brain , and I don't know how to edit posts.

No, your tank is not overstocked according to that list, provided you have the proper filtration and maintenance.

What kind of filter(s) does the tank have?

Really, you could even have a few more fish in there. Make the tetra schools larger, a couple more rams, a centerpiece like a gourami or an angel... whatever sounds good to you and you will enjoy keeping.

My filter is an Eheim Canister 2217 and I do weekly water changes of approx 25%. I did some calculations and this is what I came up with.

8 serpae - 12"
8 bleeding hearts - 20"
12 red-tailed rasbora 24"
RTB shark 5"
2 rams 4"
3 zebra loaches 12"

That is 77" of fish, so wouldn't that be overstocking in a 65 gallon?

Nah, not really. The inch per gallon rule really only works with small, schooling fish, and seems to be most accurate when applied to smaller tanks. Your stocking list looks fine, provided you keep up with your tank maintenance. Just be wary though, that serpae and bleeding heart tetras can be nippy towards themselves and tankmates. Fortunately for you, your proposed tank setup doesn't have any long-finned fish.

if you add a little more, I'd start with 3 more zebra loaches. they'll be much happier in a group of 6 instead of a group of 3. plus I don't think zebra loaches get quite to 4". I think 3" is about the most you'll see out of them.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I'm glad to know that I wouldn't be overstocking. Would it be OK then to add another 3 Zebra Loaches as I know they like to be in groups, but I didn't want to overdo it.
Sirbooks, the reason I don't have any long finned fish is because of the serpaes, even though I like angels, but I love the serpaes, they have quite the personalities! Luckily at the moment the fish that I have seem to be getting along nicely. Hope it stays that way with the new additions
