Sad story...

On Friday I came home to find out that my kribensis cichlids had had enough of my angel fish's preditory ways with their young...He was barely floating up in the top right corner of the tank, his fins shredded like the sails of a cartoonish pirate ship. He was pathetic and I was heartbroken.

I had three choices. First I could leave him to be finished off by his old pals, but that seemed heartless and inhumane. The second choice was to bring him to the fish store, but given his fragile position I have a feeling he would be fish food before my car left the parking lot. My third choice was to put him in my 6 gallon tank with my three month old sword tail fry and nurse him back to health, at which point I could give him back to the store.

Obviously I chose the third option. Little did I know that the swordtail fry were not quite big enough (they are about an inch long) to swim with the big boys yet...Within 24 hours their numbers dwindled from unlucky number 13 to the final four...it was like Survivor.

Now I have taken the final four and placed them in the breeder containiner in the main tank where all the fish stare in at them like fat men at a restaurant lobster tank...poor guys...

I try to do a good thing and look what happens! Does anyone else dislike Angel fish as much as me? I will never by another one again...

The angelfish only did what comes naturally, so really the problem wasn't with the fish, but placing him with anything small enough to be eaten.

That doesn't sound very sympathetic, but it's kind of like placing a lamb with a lion and then shooting the lion because he ate the lamb.

Agreed...but still not happy...

I'm not going to shoot the lion though. He just needs a new home.
