hi high (I love saying that )

Here's how you breed ZDs:

They are egg scatterers, and the adults don't protect the eggs, in fact they eat them. So first you need to prepare a breeding tank preferably with a coarse substrate so the eggs can fall between the pebbles but the adults acn't reach them (some people use marbles but I just use course gravel).

Also begin preparing infusoria (tiny food for the fry to eat) that's a whole new topic so I won't go into detail here.

Then you put a few males and females in the tank. The males tend to be slimmer and have goldish stripes between the black ones. The females are plumper and more silvery. It's good to have some plants in the tank so they can get away from each other, especially if you have only a few females as the males may harass them.

Early in the morning you'll see a male and female doing a kind of spawning dance where they 'corkscrew' around each other. You probably woin't be able to see the eggs because they're so tiny and the other fish will be following them around eating the eggs as soon as they are laid.

Remove all the adults from the tank, then wait for a few days. You'll see tiny larvae-like fry clinging to the glass. This is when you need to start feeding them on the infusoria. When they are free-swimming you can use commercial fry food, and when they're bigger ( a few weeks) you can use crushed flakes.

There's a lot more to it than this, but I hope this gives you a beginner's guide.
