hi guys.

this weekend i emptied out my 55g and moved it in the hope that i'll get better water quality in a different room..

what did i do?

put the fish in a hospital tank. treated with melafix.

took out everything and cleaned it! throughly...
removed the HOB filer and placed on 3ft tank after i did a water change.

moved the 4ft tank into place. filled and treated the water. added the cannister and got that going ok..
then the light. the tank is now in the same room, ans position as the 3ft was. so i should hae any water quality issues.

final product.

now.
as i put a couple of fish to cycle the tank. i've been thinking about stocking options.

i'll add rocks soon. and i'm thinking about some bigger cichilds this time, as i already have a peaceful community tank. what would you guys stock it with?

i like exotic species. like discus, i like oscars too. but i'm not sure how hard they are to keep...

with a new 55g, and with the easier fish out of the question. what would you stock it with.

In my 55 gallon I have a mbuna set up...I really love the little guys and gals in the tank...a little nippy at times, but loveable as longas they are fed...

But before you stock it be sure to use plenty of limestone, or other rock that has natural holes in it, to create hiding places for them, this will help with the aggression...ie, i'm being chased I can run out of the way through this hole and bang I'm gone...he can't see me, he's forgotten about me...and they really are neat little...ok not little fish

My stocking list:
3 Acei (Pseudotropheus Acei)
4 Kenyii (Maylandia lombardoi)
3 Rusty Cichlids (Iodotropheus sprengerae)
3 Cobalt Blues (Metriaclima callainos)
5 Electric Yellows (Labidochromis caeruleus)

here's a quick pic of the tank...heidi

a mbuna community requires a sandy substrate right?

or are they fine with a gravel?

the pic looks amazing btw..

how much does lime stone cost?

I'm a bit brain-dead right now (it's 2:30am and I just got home from work ) but you might want to check out the 55g cookie cutter ideas [link=here]http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/cookie_cutter_55g.php" style="COLOR: #FFCC99[/link]. Good place to start and they might give you some ideas you hadn't already thought about.

Altolamprologus Calvus would be really cool. You can try to get them breeding and get some extra pocket money aswell.
It may be hard to find some though.

A mbuna setup would be very nice aswell.

If you plan on keeping african cichlids you're gonna need a high PH. So get some limestone or crushed coral to help raise and buffer the PH.

Limestone isn't the only rock you can use, lava rock etc is always great. But if you don't get limestone you'll need some crushed coral to help out with the PH.
