i got some pics, although i quickly found out that snails are 10 times harder to photograph than a zebra danio!

those are only 2 variations though, i have silver striped, a clean red, and more, only its hard to take pictures of snails.. and i got frustrated

Some stores sell apple/mystery snails and almost every store with live plants has snails they will give you just to get rid of them.

i had a few craws a while back, my oldst one (which is also the one i took inside) excaped and i found a few days later in the basement in the sump pump it had to get past gates, doors, 3 dogs, 2 cats, stairs! too bad i found it too late

I just got some free pest snails

They are actually suprizingly cute! Black with green/yellow spots! I also got some white apples. I'm gonna wait a few weeks and see what I get Hopefully some nice snails!

o wow, i just remembered i have a friend who has a creek next to his house...it is filled wiht snails!!!! there are about an inch all together...are those what u r talking about?? it is also filled wiht crawdads...any1 know anything about them???? thanks!!

i have some that are 1cm, but they grow fast at first, but slow down alot once they reach a certin size (varies for individuals)

male/female, doesnt matter, atleast i dont think it does

and you should take a look in your lfs plant tanks, and you can pick out and buy the plant that either has the most snails on it, or you can ask if you can pick out some yourself.

and no, they dont need a filter, also feeding some veggies helps too also just found out that my pond tan kis complete i guess i found a misquito larve must have drifted up from the basement.. oh well, fed it to a betta

and well, you will know when they breed meaning, when you watch them..you will know

ummm... first off... what is flank??? and second i only have one plant and no ponds by my house.. o and i have three more question...[lol] do they need a filter, how do they breed, and could u get them at stores???

i collected wild snails, from a large river about an hour from my house, but im sure you can get them from a plant tank in your lfs or go to the local pond...snails dont eat their eggs so all you have to do is toss some flake in every now than then, if you want alot of snails, feed frequently, they breed based on the ammount of food available

WHere do u get pest sanils...is ther anything special u feed the fry...is there any special food you have to give the adults...and what do u do with the eggs once they have been laid...I want to breed them sounds like fun.!!!]

also found something out..apparently snails are excape atists i found 3 that had excaped, they were shoved way in the back of their shells and all, but insted of throwing them away like i usualy do, i just tossed them back, guess what they came back to! i found that quite fasinating

Cute! Im thinking of breeding Apples... I may even order some online ^-^ Im tempted to just stick a nice variety of snails in my 10gal and let them take it from there!

i have gotten so many strains it would make your head spin!

i have a yellow shell with a black spiral with a white body
i found a white shell with a black body last night (so cool)
i have a pure yellow shell with a white body
normal shell for the most part, some swirlies of gold, in normal and white body

and many more!

i love my "pest" snails and i truely hate apple snails, all they do is eat my plants, they dont breed, theyeat my good plants.... they are going back to the store next monday

I don't breed pest snails for fun, but I let useful snails breed of their own accord.. Some people would consider them to be pests...

MTS snails - regular brown ugly ones. These will be given to local aquarists who want some for their planted tanks.

MTS snails - var. 'purple rough shell'
Only name I could come up with for this variety.
White rough shell with purple-ish stripes, quite nice !
These will breed on their own, and will be sold in aquabid if I get too many.

Red Ramshorn Snails
either Planorbis rubrum/corneus (var. ruber ?)
There is also Australian red snail Bulinus australian, and one from north america called Helisoma trivolvis to look into to know for sure which I have.. Also a couple species from Europe.. Great, more crap to research !

They don't appear ruby/blood red at the moment but definately red, and not a brown one among them 20-30)
so they should breed true.. Whichever those are, they are also going on aquabid should I get too many.
There are also red ramshorns that are color morphs of regular ramshorns but they won't breed true.

I can obtain some specialty home-made 'snail bikkies' at any time from a friend who breeds snails should I need a population explosion to occur. I bet it may cost me a few red snailies though

Purple Brig Snails - I have one in the 40, I'll only keep one in each tank so they won't breed.

Brown ramshorns in the 40,
Brown ramshorns and pond snails in the 10.
Want those ALL gone. No damage to the plants though...

The Amazon Nut...

i keep the normal snails in an un heated 10 gallon, but i dont ever get an adult "fancy" snail from that bunch, i only see them as tiny hatchlings, but they just arnt strong enough to survive past that stage, but with selective breeding i can get lots of better strains, i havent gotten time to take any pictures as of yet, but i will as soon as i can lol

i grabbed some out of my heated 20 long, and found some new ones i htink you will enjoy my black fronted chesnut the best he moved up into first place above my white shelled blacks

oh and if they grow up to be about a year old, they will reach about a half inch in lenght , i had 2 regulars that made it that far, last year, but i gave them to my sister, and then the filter ate them

Wow, I find loads of different sorts in my tank, I used to get loads with spiral shells but i havent seen that sort for a while, I just get the normal ones now, last time i saw a spiral shalled one was a few months ago.
so how big do they grow? Id get a tank to breed them. Does it have to be in warm water? or can it be in cold too?

when i say pest, i mean the typical pond snail, i will show some pictures of my new variations today, if i an pick out some special ones
