I do it all the time with my pond. I water the plants from my pond then simply refill the pond from my well

The people who lived in this apartment just tied their dog outside and the grass was badly damaged. after just a few months of tossing the old fishwater out there it came right back around and looks very good now. And the house plants seem to love it as well.

As long as it's freshwater, not brackish, it should be fine. I've used it on my african violets and patio plants with lots of success. I don't use it all the time, because I'm worried about TOO much nutrients getting into the little patio pots, but I do use it instead of fertilizer about half the time.

I'm so adjective, I verb nouns!

Aquarium water is good for your plants & even if it is treated, i would use it aswell.

Normal aquarium water that has not been treated with any medications should be fine to use even on edible plants.
I have a question about how your treating your ro water. Are you only using equilibrium? Equilibrium is a mineral mix to raise gh and is particularly suited for ro water going into a planted tank. What it doesn't do is buffer the water at all. If you are using equilibrium for general hardness you also need to use something for carbonate hardness. If not you'll have no buffer in your tank and risk ph crashes or extremely low ph that can kill off fish.

Don't use it on anything you eat. The chemicals used to treat the water/neutralise chlorine (etc.) in your tank all have written on them "Not to be used on fish for human consumption". Feeding it to youvegies would be the same as eating fish living in it. Bad.

I use my old aquarium water on all of my potted plants, and have been for a couple of years now. If you don't do crazy things like treat your tank with salt, then you don't have any more problem with salt accumulation in pots than you do using your tap water. If you treat a tank for some disease, then i suggest the water is best on your lawn/grass, and not on any delicate plants.

My miniature roses love it, as do my blueberry bushes. Just need a much bigger tank now so I have enough water after each pwc to water 'em all.

At work I have a large hydroponics garden built into each of my filter systems. I start seed in the hydroponics, then transfer the sprouts to a garden irrigated with waste water from the tanks.
At home I drain my tank water onto the plants in the front yard. I haven't had to fertilize since.

Roses love sushi water. Lots of good fertilizer. A very little goes a long way on inside potted plants. Good stuff.

I use the old water on my outside plants as well, I don't use it often on my inside plants. My african violets didn't do well with it. My tomato plants love it.

I think I saw something about this several months ago, possibly even an FP thread. Now that I'm looking for the information, I can't find it.

What I was wondering is whether old aquarium water from water changes and gravel vacs would be good for watering houseplants and flowerbeds? Does anyone do this?

I use RO water in four of my tanks. Seachem's Equilibrium is added to those tanks to replace some of the minerals removed during the RO process. Would this water be safe or even beneficial for my houseplants and flowerbeds?

I use tap water in my fifth tank and add dechlorinator and cichlid salt. I probably wouldn't use water from this tank on my plants because of the added salt.

Ok, I'm a little confused by all the different answers I'm getting. Just kidding

I'm not sure I've ever seen an FP thread in which everyone was in such agreement! I will definitely be using my old aquarium water in my flowerbeds from now on. Thanks for the advice.

Being a mad orchid grower and gardener Yes and No

Yes out side. No garden beds, in potted plants as this will/could cause an over feeding or a salt build up. By the time it was noticed the damage would have been done.

On the garden beds it can be washed away naturally and does not cause the build up.

as said before, plants do amazing thigns with used aquarium water. Of course, if you've got a disease that you're treating in the tank, it's probably not the best idea. I believe it was Sin in Style who watered the different parts of his garden.

Me too, the plants look really good on it- one thing though- i wouldnt do it if your really close (ie a few yards away ) to a stream cos you dont want stuff from your tanks getting into local watercourses, other than that - go for it.

My plants love aquarium water, they grow very well with all the lovely dirty water. I also enjoy recycling the water.

The flowers and plants will love the nitrate full water.
I dont remember who it was but someone watered one side of their garden with tank water and left the other half without. The difference was amazing.

when i was using a normal gravel vac, I would just take the bucket of fishy water and go dumping on the plants of choice...that simple, and trust me they love iteven did it outside at the elem. school, and the other "teachers" couldn't figure out why grass was suddenly growing where it had never grown before
