they can but they r brackish water fw will shorten there lifespan
n for best health n colour n activity levels brackish water is needed

I think they can survive in freshwater for a while, but they will ulimately die from it. I'm pretty sure that osmosis has much to do with this, and freshwater is not good for archerfish. They have not adapted to living in water that constantly invades their cells, if that makes sense. Osmosis is a tricky subject.:%)

It's kinda like asking if a goldfish can live in a bowl. They can live in fresh water, just not very long, and eventually die because of complications with being in it.
