Despite the fact that I found a site saying this puffer is one of the most common I've never heard of it. In a search the scientific name I came up with was tetraodon cutcutia and this site has basic care info http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/encyclopedia-83.html.

Considering they are 6", how messy puffers are, and how much they like to explore a 20g would probably be the minimum tank size.

I'm not entirely sure. They do come from a similar area to the dwarf puffer which prefers a planted tank and what I can find suggests they spawn in heavily planted areas. Rock structures or driftwood would probably be appreciated as well since puffers are very curious and like lots of different decorations to manuever around. They are quite agile but not very fast and mostly use their small pectoral fins to hover and travel slowly about the tank. Most puffers don't really care what the substrate is. If your going for more of a biotope setup they are from asian ponds and rivers but otherwise you can probably decorate it however you like so long as it is heavily decorated with lots of places to explore and I would try to include at least 1 clump of fairly tall plants.

Plants also make it easier to keep up water quality since puffers are quite messy eaters usually only settling for frozen or live foods. You'll probably have to keep a fairly steady supply of pest snails on hand at least at first unless they are already trained to eat frozen food, but that's not difficult. I just stuck a 2g or so container with an airstone and several snails under the stand. I gave them a chunk of lettuce or shrimp pellet every few days.

I don't know for certain about these puffers but it wasn't real difficult to train my dwarf puffer to eat frozen food and frozen food isn't much more work than dried food to deal with. I feed all my fish mostly frozen foods. The suggestion on the dwarf puffer forum was to not feed the fish for 2-3days and then hold a frozen bloodworm in some tweezers and wiggle it around like it was alive. I fed mine heavily on live snails for several days because he was too skinny then tried feeding him bloodworms and he tasted one on the 3rd day. After that he started eating them most of the time they were offered.

well actualy i grow blood worms in my snail tank, just found SEVERAL large adults in the gravel, not sure how they go there, but hey, im not complaneing (atleast i htink they are blood worms, probly not..but hey, they are worms that my fish love)

ok, so i started feeding my snails twice daily to get them a bit bigger, if those stupid mystary snails would breed already i could have some larger snails by the time i get the puffers lol (any idea how to get apple snails to breed?)

Those aren't bloodworms. Bloodworms are a mosquito larvae and if they are bloodworms you will soon have adult mosquitos in your house. They are probably the same as those worms I got in on some plants from azgardens. They are harmless worms and do make good fish food. All mine got eaten quite quickly.

For applesnail breeding info see this post and the applesnail.net website[link=http://fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Invertebrates/67147.html]http://fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Invertebrates/67147.html" style="COLOR: #C000C0[/link]

ugh...sorry but blood worms are DEFFINATLY not 'sketer larve, beleave me i used to breed htem and hrvst them outside (well i provided the water, and stole the young) blood worms are the result of another kind of fly thinger (cant remember what they are called >&lt

but they are a kind of wormy thing, that likes to stand up in the gravel, and when you bump the table, they sway with the water, some fall down, then slither back up and get into the gravel again, kinda creapy actualy

its kinda hard to get them from th tank, i mean i have to suck them up with a syringe, while they try and excape oh well, i get what i get

Why does everyone keep telling me they are mosquito larvae... Anyway a quick search says bloodworms are the larvae of a flying insect but it's midge flies not mosquitos. They still can't be cultivated easily because most of the midge fly species need lots of breeding space above the water and it apparently takes a long time for the larvae to become breeding adults so unless you have alot of space for alot of bugs you won't have a constant supply.
