How about a school of cardinal tetras? They're common enough but they're very nice looking especially in a small tank setup!

If you live in MA, you could go to Uncle Neds and pick up some Shell Dwellers!! I think he has Similis, Brevis, Occelatus, and Meleagris. Take your pick!

Profiles here:

Azrael: You haven't seen Cardinals available? They're everywhere in MA, very easy to find including Uncle Neds. :%)

He just told you where to get some! Those online maps always drag out the times, you could make that in half an hour.

It takes me about 45mins to get to Uncle Ned's and about 1hr30min for a round trip. Its worth the trip though. I consider Uncle Neds as my primary store for fishies.

Uncle Ned's Fish Factory:

If you are seriously considering Shell Dwellers, head over to Cichlid-forum.com, read the articles, and check out the forums. Its basically a single specie of Shell Dweller in a 10g and depending on which one (the 4 I mentioned), you can do 1m, 1f or 1m, 2f.

I got 4 Occelatus in hope to get a 1m and 1f and got 3m,1f so I had to return 2 of the males. They've had 2 bunches of babies already in about 3months.

I have three 10 gallon setups. They are listed in my profile. My favorite setup is the Platy/Cory tank.

i live in Brockton MA

also lot of places are telling me they "can" get blue rams in but its yet to happen. Also wouldn't 2 blue rams in a 10 be already fully stocked? I assume if they do breed the fry would need some space to swim before moved out.

Funny I should come across this thread. I was just thinking I had the absolute best 10 gallon set up in the world...Unfortunately, its in my bathroom and my husband hates it there.
Its a white sand substrate with 2 ADFs (I will be adding another one or two) and 5 fancy male guppies. I have small silk plants (like the kind that are sold as "betta decorations" and 2 small terra cotta pots turned on their sides. In all 4 corners are silk amazon sword plants. Truly, it looks like a tiny little hobbit beach scene with the guppies looking like multi colored kites. I just love this tank!

I also have a ten gallon I need something to do with. What are "ADF's". Asparagus, your tank set up sounds very cool . I was thinking of guppies because they always seem to be so active and bright.

ADFs are African Dwarf Frogs. They are small frogs that are really cute but not particularly active.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I really enjoy the White Clouds in my 10g. Don't need a heater for them, but they are not exotic.
