just got back from my holiday and decided to finally get some fish for my 10g tank-

it has been running for 3 weeks with just plants (fed with liquid fertilizer)

however when we got back from hol my fiancees mother had bought us two sucking loaches as a gift (there has been a build up of algae and she bought them thinking they would clear up this.)

No idea what they are like for cycling the tank though and from my research they aren't a good choice of fish for our 10 g tank as they grow to 11" and can be aggressive and should be kept alone.

However my LFS owner recons they are fine to keep in there for the time being (upto 6 months) and he will take them off our hands after this time. He did a water test which was fine and we got 3 colourful platies. MFF.

we took out 4 of the big plants and so now just have 3 small ones all attached to bog wood-

java fern
java moss and
anubius nana.

Have the guy at the lfs take them off your hands now. It is not good to leave them in a tank like that for any real period of time. It will stunt their growth. They need a bigger home! If you have an algae problem, get something like an otto. They love algae. Maybe some shrimp, they also love algae. Take those loaches back and get them a better home.
