Actually I have a 29 with an angelfish in it (a large adult male), and he is fine with any betta I put in. Currently he is living with a male plakat. I've had no problems with him with any bettas.

Good to hear that he is doing pretty well in that tank. I have the most awesome looking betta, and he did not really want to eat much for abotu the first week I had him. He only ate when he was really really hungry I think because I would drop a flake or 2 in there and it would be there for at least a day or so before he would touch it. Then all of the sudden he is VERY active and a bit of a lil' piglet. He is great now. I just love to watch him.
I bet after a few days he will get used to everything and be just fine.

That's great news sham
I think you'll find the betta will work up a bit more of an appetite and will soon work out where the food is

The angel didn't really care about the betta. It just looked over the betta in the net then swam away so I turned the betta loose and the angel still didn't care. The betta tried to chase anything smaller than it but everything was too fast and when faced with the somewhat bigger angel headed the other direction. After awhile the betta settled down to explore the plants and hang around in the huge pile of floating hornwort that keeps taking over the top of the tank. I left the bowl just in case my mom has to seperate the betta again. The only concern I have is making sure the betta gets food. The fish in there are a bit pushy and so far the betta has been a very slow eater. He circles around the food I put in the bowl and sometimes doesn't get around to eating it while I'm standing there. Maybe just because it was different food than he was used to like frozen brine shrimp.

We have almost ALWAYS had bettas in with our other fish. My aunt had a betta in her 40 gallon hex (I think thats how big it was it was a very long time ago) There were angels, neons(somehow they did not get eaten), silver dollars a pleco and a few other fish and the betta did jsut fine for years! So I do not see any reason they wouldn't work unless you have a very mean betta or a very mean angel.

bettalife all that info is in my first post. It's a 29g tank and the angel has been in there for quite awhile. I also wouldn't put any angelfish in a 10g tank. Not even a 20g high. I don't think they belong in any less than a 29g and eventually the angel may move to my 90g as it grows up but it was smaller than the swordtail when I bought it as a tiny baby.

I would both add the angel and betta in the tank at the same time so the betta doesn't get a chance to become Territorial. I had that happen with my platy and my betta in a 5.5gal tank, the funny part is, I had the platy first and the betta was the submissive one.

But what size tank? even small angels should be in a tank 10gals +

I think I'll take the betta with me the next time I go to my mom's house and try it out. Since the male swordtail just died(probably old age) the tank seems emptier. He was so colorful.

I know angelfish sometimes get along with gouramis but is there any chance a betta and angelfish would get along? I rescued this betta from certain death in a cracked leaky container at walmart but I really don't have a place to put him. All my tanks have gouramis in them that would not get along with the betta. I was wondering if I could put him in the tank I left at my mom's house. It's a 29g with 1 angelfish, 1 bristlenose, 1 female swordtail, and 4 yoyo loaches.

I wouldn't add an Angel with a Betta & i think that the Betta will rip the Angel's fins.

If you have a large enough tank (at least a 2ft)with not so much water movement up top and plenty of places for the betta to rest in then yes it can work. Just watch them for a while to make sure that personality clashes don't happen

I would be more concerned about the betta ripping the fins of the angels. As a general rule, I would not put bettas in with angels.

I'd say NO.
Bettas are better off living by themselves in a smaller container that you can do 100% water changes in every week. They just don't do well in filtered tanks with water currents and other fish.

Also, you'll find better answers in the Labyrinth Lounge

every fish is different, if the angel is small, then maybe, but bigger ones maybe likeing his fins.
