how small are u looking for? betta bellica are aggressive, but only to eachother what about an arfican butterfly fish, so the 30 would be good, it looks cool and it is a predictor.

looks like this whole thread got off to the wrong foot.]:|

if u want a larger fish maybe a 70 gallon tank later in life u have one, a tilpia bukf.

but for now, i have even had a ram that will do that, eat rosy reds.

a medium size cichlid would probably be best, maybe a Cichlasoma paranense or golden cichlid.

will eat bugs. or 1 GT.

Wow how big do they get? I'm suprised. The profile says they get 3" and suggest a school for a 15 gallon tank. Are they two different fish or is the profile just completely off? (not the first time, but still...)

And I would lay up a bit about the "agressive" topic. Agressive doesn't mean killer. I personally like chichlids or other territorial fish because they will occasionally flare at each other and have little pecking order battles. Now, this doesn't make me a sadist, I just enjoy a group of fish that interact on a wider range than just schooling together. I think it's fascinating to see them spar occasionally. I am sure that's what the poster meant by an agressive tank.

you didnt have to get mad cory, people like differant things

Who said I was mad? I was simply wondering why you are so determined to stuff your tank with aggressive fish?

are there any agressive schoolers for a 30

Aggressive fish tend to not be schoolers. Fish like Bucktooth Tetras only become aggressive in the confines of a small aquarium.

There's an immense difference between aggressive behavior and predatory behavior. African Butterflyfish are pretty much harmless to anything but small insects.

They are generally sold at around 3.5-4" long, which is still to big to have a school of them in a 30 gallon.

Why do you want aggressive fish? If you're not not going to keep them with anything else, then you won't see their aggressive behavior. If you do keep them with something else just to watch them be mean to it, that is cruel and immature.

Racso is right about them being very aggressive and growing too large for a 30 gallon tank.

It is possible, however, to keep them with other fish. I personally have kept them with other large, aggressive characins like Pink-Tailed Chalceus and Leporinus species. It just has to be done in a really big tank.

Bettachris... where did importfan say anything about putting them with other fish???

ANYWAY. They get 5 to 7 inches long, so that is a little big for a 30 gallon, but what is more important than how big they get is their temperment toward each other.

They create a pecking order in which one will dominate over the others. To help control this pecking order and help keep some from being singled out and picked on is getting a large number of them. About 10 or more is good.

Now exodons are VERY aggressive. Betta, they do more than nip scales, they'll eat other fish. I know personally from experiance that they will kill bigger fish. The only fish they can really go with are fish that are larger and more dominating than they are. Even so, they can still be a problem for the larger fish, but may not kill it.

umm, really dont put them with others if u were going to, correct me if i am wrong, but aren't those scale nippers.

umm, maybe i forgot the words if you. gees everybody leave me alone, its starting to get to me.]:|

and it wasan't me taht asked a question. those are my 2 cents about these fish. and from what i do no, since i haven't kept them was that they are scale nippers, which can cause problems, so u dont want to add them with anyother community tank fish.]:|
