Does anyone know of a lfs in atlanta ga that buys fish back or gives store credit, my brother added a fish to my tank that is eating my cute tetras!! the store that the fish was bought from doesnt take fish back and even if they did I wouldnt give it back to them because their fish look sick and there are too many in a single tank... would love some input the fish is a gorgeous red parrot cichlid or as my brother said- "large candy parrot fish"

what led you to think you could keep a parrot chichlid with anything like a tetra? can you put a divide in till you get it back to a shop coz it will eat eveything in your tank

what else is in your tank?

You can divide the tank or find another tank, till you find a home for your Parrot Cichlid.

Get out the phone book or search the interent for the phone numbers of LFSs. Then call and ask them if they take trade ins for store credit.

Also, don't buy from the LFS that doesn't take returns and tell your brother not to add fish to your tank.

I didnt think that I could!!! not my purchase!!!!! As soon as I saw it i freaked out... a friend of mine who works for a fish store said that if I cant find a home for the fish that he would take it which is looking like the best option. It amazes me at the variety of tones that can be portrayed over the internet... you can make someone feel really stupid with just a few words, or you can offer the same advice without the snappy word choice. just an observation yall- but anyway thanx for the input

Many LFSs will not give you money back for the fish. You will probably get some store credit, usually about ¼ - ½ of the price that they will sell the fish for. But don't expect to get much for the fish; parrot cichlids are common fish that many people object to because they are hybrids. If I was trying to get rid of one, I would be satisfied if the store just offered to take the fish off my hands without giving me anything in return.

LFS are a pain in that sense! All my lfs u can trade ur fish in for VERY little cash or credit, where u can trade in like 10 fish and get a packet of bloodworm!
I was devistated to find out that when i traded my breading pair of oscars back to the lfs, that i only got $70 for them..when like 6 months earlier i bought htem from there for $200...A few weeks later i went back there and they were for sale again for $200 it was bull ! grrr

When it comes down to it the lfs is just a store. It wouldn't make sense to buy the fish off you for 200 then sell it for the same price. Those stores tend not to last long. Most people are lucky to have places that trade in fish.

Exactly. And unlike most stores, the "inventory" at LFS costs a lot of money just to keep there. All the lights and filters that run all day, every day, all the food, water conditioners, and medications that are needed, the water bills, and not to mention that the stores spend a lot of money to hire people to take care of the fish.

Because of these high costs of just keeping the store stocked, nearly all LFS don't even break even when it comes to fish sales. They absolutely need the money they get from the dry goods in order to just stay in business.

I imagine that fish stores that stock a lot of fish and take care of their fish are some of the most expensive stores to run, so they need every bit of money they can get.
