i am not getting pirhana's for my 55G.(emtpy) i plan on getting a few small angels,4 neons, 4 cardinals, 3 pairs of guppie, and maybe some little tetra/barb. will this combo work.

yes but in a 55 youve got plenty of room to really up those schools!
something like this
3-4 angels
12-16 neons OR cards
8-10 cories
6-9 guppies ( fry wouldnt have a chance to overpopulate with the angels in there)

having large schools will be more rewarding than several small groups of fish

I agree that you could increase the numbers on your tetras quite a bit, but I would stay away from the neons as they will probably end up as the angels dinner at some time.

if u want angels n neons in the tank for thier lives i suggest jumbo neons they get about 3x as large as regular neons altho they r a bit more expensive but show up amazingly in a tank

(with in all my tanks my large school of cardinals gets alot of attention from ppl i have over jsut a thought)

maybe u can add in some gouramis.. 2 golden or pearl would look great.. and maybe a bn.. and you could replace the guppies with a school of tiger barbs..
just some ideas

You can get about 4 Angels, 16 Rummynose & 10 Corydoras.
