Well over last summer my sister's boyfriend got permission to plug everything back in and at least feed them over the summer. This year my aunt who is a 2nd grade teacher convinced them to give up the fish and not keep anymore. Now we have tanks of mystery fish that she's bringing over to me in an hour. There's a random assortment of livebearers, tetras, and goldfish which won't be much of a problem. Then she said there are 2 fairly large white fish that have each taken over opposite ends of this tank and they kill anything that's added. Any ideas what they are and what to do with them? They are being kept in a 20g tank right now. The goldfish are going to the neighbors pond. |

I do have 3 guppies, 3 cardinals, 1 orange platy, 1 spotted swordtail, 1 giant danio, and a mystery catfish. The catfish is in pretty sad shape. It's missing both it's eyes and it's sides are all fuzzy. I can't even tell what color it is. I put them in a 10g with some pimafix for now. |

Second, send your middle school teacher to me. For a does of educating in basic fish care. And a bludgeoning with a ba "Turns everything off during the holidays ..." ... D'oh. What does this person think? That the fish can do without life support over the holidays? That they only need it during term time? Idiot ... |

Never seen a full grown big cory before. All mine are little pandas or trilli. The guppies went to another home. The cardinals joined my assortment of remaining tetras after the disease that only wiped out my tetras. The platy turned out to be a female swordtail who is in a 10g by herself now. The male swordtail and danio joined my angelfish and yoyo loaches in the 29g. So everyone is now in a happy home. I think teachers should be fired for teaching kids such disregard for anything living. |

You would think that some one that has the education background that a teacher has, would know better than just abandon the fish for the summer ![]() ![]() |

Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 ![]() | ]:|]:|]:|What in a flying flip is that woman thinking of?]:|]:|]:| I mean for goodness sakes I admit the teacher down the hall would just leave her fish in the summer and hope for the best, and occassionally some soul would drop food in on them, but at least the filtration and aerator was left running!!! Now me, please I sat there for 20 minutes this afternoon, catching guppies of all flipping sizes and bagging them in the ziplock to come home...Then I didn't even unplug everything, but left it all running, because I would hate to think that I had some how missed 1 or 2 shy fry... So exactly how is that "thing" that wants to be called a teacher explaining that it's ok to just unplug things and go?]:|]:|]:|Send her here to me I have a few kids that I'll hand her over too when I'm through with her, and then Cali if there is anything left we will ship her rear end to you, but keep in mind we will only use a box measuring 2ft x 2ft x 2ft...sealing it air tight with packing tape, no air holes, no food, no water, and no potty...oh and did I mention that it will be shipped by the US Postal System? So who knows how long it will actually take]:| Wings, are you in college preparing to go through education classes? What level of school would you want to teach? Any special field or area that you have chosen? Let me congratulate you on this decision, but also keep in mind these things...teaching is NOT an easy job, any "holiday" you might get is always used preparing for the next section of school, while it can be the most rewarding thing in your life, it can also be the most draining , and I don't know about your schools in your area, but here if anything goes wrong, it is always the teacher's fault and problem....and lastly not to be totally negative, but I would hate for you to go through 4 years of college and go "AHHHHHH!!! What was I thinking?!?!?" the first year of teaching can only be described as hell...I'm sorry to say it, but that is the only way to describe it...the second year is better, and by the third year things are much much much better, so hang in there...also keep in mind each time you change schools/districts, it goes back to first year teacher syndrom...pm me if you like, This was my 7th year, and pugperson's 8th year...best of luck, heidiI miss those times I miss those nights I even miss the silly fights The making up The morning talks And those late afternoon walks I miss my friend The one my heart and soul confided in The one I felt the safest with ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Posts: 2332 Kudos: 799 Registered: 18-Jan-2005 ![]() | Right now I just got done with my 4th year of school. I have two more to go being I went to community college for 2 years and killed my self on Gen. Ed's being I didn't know what I wanted to do with me self. So I have heard the key to making it is the first couple of years. Right now I am either thinking 3rd or 4th grade but I will also be qualified for middle school science which also has a bit of a calling to it. Another thing I am looking out for is trying to say in a area that is much like the one I group up in. Aka staying as far away from the intercity as possible!! Thanks for your input. I am sure I will make it!! I hope!! 19G Container Pond [IMG]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/Wingsdlc/Ric |
