I have a 30g community tank. It has 6 serpae tetras, 7 neon tetras, and an otto. I want to add a center piece fish and i would like an angel. However, I'm worried that the serpaes will nip its long fins. Will they and is there anyway i can make it so they wont? like by adding more?

I wouldnt do it. Even with more serpaes, i think it would still be too much of a risk. A possiblity would be a festivum. Im not completely sure, but i think it would be much better off than an angel.

I'll do graffiti,
If you sing to me in French.

I would hesitate putting an angel in with serpaes, simply because angels might be a bit slow moving to get away from any nipping. I nice centrepiece fish could be a keyhole cichlid.

While neons are the natural prey of the angel there are many hobbyists who keep these two together successfully. Depending on the personality of the angel and how well fed it is will impact whether neons become lunch for an angel.
If you add a small angel to a tank that has already established neons to it you should be fine. If it was around the other way you might have problems with the angel and its territory being invaded.

I wouldn't add an Angelfish in that tank with Serpae's.
I would add 5 moro Oto's, 2 Serpae, 1 Neon & 6 Corydoras.

ive kept neons and angels together without a problem, if you are going to get angels make sure you get them small.

No, dwarf gouramis would be the same prob as the angel. they are too slow and the serpaes will gang up on it. i've seen it before. sorry thats the probs with serpaes, they look awesome but they are too nippy!

Get 2 more Serpae Tetras, 2 more ottos and one more Neon (just to make it an even number)

A nice centerpiece fish that could go in this tank are Bolivian Rams

They can move quick and are quite beautiful, and can probably fend off the Serpae tetras.

Here is a picture of my male Bolivian Ram i used to have

Nameless attached this image:

[edit]some people say that the Bolivian Ram's colors make it look rather drab, but does that look drab to you?
