What species of algae eater? If it is a Chinese algae eater, it will grow too large for the tank and will become aggressive.

A convict would probably be fine with tiger barbs, but I wouldn't risk the neons. They are small enough that the cichlid could eat them if it wished.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

The convict will eventually get to the tiger barbs.

I wouldn't trust a Convict with Neons & Barbs.
What type of Algae Eater do you have?.

Here is a link that you can use to check compatability. [link=http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/fwcompatibility_chart.cfm]http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/fwcompatibility_chart.cfm" style="COLOR: #009999[/link]

It probably isn't perfect, but it is a pretty good place to start and will help you eliminate the fish that you wouldn't want to put together in a tank.
