I wouldn't recommend it. A friend of mine tried to mix the two and said that the cichlids were always going after the frog.

I would only try it with the most placid dwarf cichlids.

It's better not to try it, or at least if you still want to try it, just keep a good eye on your tank & remove the frogs as soon as you see any chasing.

Cichlids simply love frog legs.

mostly likely end up as food or get picked on. there was a thread recently with someone having their frog being eaten by their SA/CA cichlid.

What kind of cichlids?? just wondering?

My red devil ate my dwarf frog, or I assume it did as the time I saw my frog was a month ago and it's leg was in the mouth of the devil.

I wouldn't mix them.

oscars AND mbuna in the same tank? uh oh thats a bit of a . they require different tank parameters!

how big are the fish? depending on their size id be a bit worried about the oscar eating the mbuna!

how long has the tank been setup for? whats the pH of the tank?

well the oscar is about 2 1/2" inches and the mbuna is about 2". i don't see any problems with them at this size. but i will move them in a 70gallon soon.

There are several things to aware of.

The two diets are quite different. Mbunas such as your auratus are known to get malawi bloat which some people suggest is a result of a higher protein diet such that an oscar requires. Your auratus is mainly vegetarian.

The PH difference is not to major due to the fact most people just go with the ph that the tap water is. Better to sometimes leave as such and not us chemicals.

The aggresion levels can be very different between the two fish. Since they are juveniles their personality and aggression will wildly change as they mature. The oscar will reach sizes of 12" and the auratus will top out at 4-5". The compatibility of the two is a SERIOUS issue. The auratus is one of the most aggressive africans and it will have no problem attacking the oscar. The oscar will defend itself and could possibly eat the auratus, although the probability is lower due to them growing up together. Their natural "communication" towards each other is also forgein due to one being from african and the other from South America.

An 70 gal would make a nice oscar home and you could a larger bottom feeder with him. The oscar have a ton of personality and can be interactive.

The 70 gal would also make a nice mbuna tank, where you could stock some more aggressive tank mates.

But my experience and as others will tell you that the two won't make good tank mates.

The diet of my fish are. those fruit and veggie pellets that you feed to love birds and paraqueets. its cheaper because I also have lovebirds. and it looks exatly the same as fishfood exept it has colors. and i mix in dried shrimp and ciclid pellets. hmmz. soo far my ciclids are getting along really good, they should get better once i transfer them into the 70gallon tank.
