Well I just got to move my pair of blue gouramis to their new bigger home and now I need to add some new fish to my 20 gallon. I had recently lost a couple dwarf rainbows (possibly due to stress of breeding gouramis picking on them relentlessly) so her eis the current stock.

20 gallon tall

3 Dwarf Neon Rainbows (1 male, 2 female)
5 Kuhli Loaches

I would like to add 2 more dwarf rainbows and was curious if its going to matter if I get a male or not. My LFS only has 1 female and 1 male at the moment.

also going to probably add some Otto's or a rubbernose pleco as BN plecos are unavailable in my area

Also does anyone have experience with Chinese Hillstream Loach? Info is sparse and varied online. My LFS calls them a butterfly pleco, but research says otherwise. Curious if they like to school or can be kept as a solo fish. Also some pages said they are algae eaters while other say otherwise.

thanks

about the hillstream loach-
they are fairly hardy, but they prefer colder water (about 67-74f).they also prefer good oxygenated water with a current. hope this helps.

Everything sounds good. I would buy the the male and female, it should be fine. I would also go with the rubbernose over the ottos. It is your choice though. The rubbernose lec is hardier. Make sure to perform regular water changes and regular filter cleanings as fish like this. Is your tank planted?
