| dwarf puffer... | |
Dun(e)![]() Enthusiast Posts: 216 Votes: 0 Registered: 04-Apr-2001 ![]() | after reading the thread on the GSP... Can a dwarf puffer go in a 20 or 25 long with cichlids? I read the little guy is fairly aggressive, but will its tiny size prove too easy a meal for the other fish? Right now, i have a 20 with a male convict and a 25 long with 4 lemon yellows and a blue striped cichlid (bout an inch or so long). Dun(e) |

I'm not sure what your other cichlids are (Africans, maybe?), but I'm almost completely certain they'd eat the Puffer, too. Puffers do really well in smaller thanks, though. If you've got room for a ten gallon tank, it'd be great for three Dwarf Puffers. ![]() ______________ Cake or death? |

I'd suggest keeping Dwarf Puffers in a species tank. I've heard many horror stories about DPs suddenly deciding that their tankmates look yummy. It'd be horrible to wake up one morning with no Harlies and one very fat, happy DP. Dwarfpuffers.com is a great site for DP info. They seem to think putting DPs in with -certain- other fish is okay. *shrugs* It's -really- up to you and whether you're willing to risk it or not. If you are going to put a DP in with the Harlies, I'd suggest keeping a 10 gallon tank running just in case the puffer starts becoming too aggressive. It's good to have an extra 10 running anyway because it's the perfect quarantine and hospital tank. ![]() Are the Harlies the only fish in the 10? I did some reading and came to the same conclusion as you did - pretty risky putting the little guys with the harlequins. On the bright side, i have a 20g with just a male convict in it... if i get the dwarfs, I'll prob trade in my male convict so the harlequins can have a bigger home and the dwarfs will be happy in their 10g. Thanks for the site reference, i'll check it out. Dun(e) |

Just leave them in a species tank. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
