| emerald eye rasboras in my 75 gal.? | |

I'd heard of them before but I'd never seen them in real life. Photos do not do these little guys justice! Anyway, I'm pretty keen on these little buggers, but I can't find very much information about them. Does anyone have experience with them? I'm wanting to add them to my 75 gal but I'm nervous about it. They'll easily be the smallest fish in the tank. They would share the tank with dwarf neon rainbowfish, sailfin mollies, golden wonder killifish, yo yo loaches, serpae tetras, a kribensis, and a paradise fish. Would they stand a chance? The only reason I ask is because I wonder if they could out swim anything that wanted to pick on them. Another concern is whether they'd be able to compete for food. Any thoughts or information would be appreciated. |

They are quite skittish and will swim frantically when disturbed. i've had the pleasure of keeping these guys a few years back and i was quite fond of their shiny silver colors and their body shapes being similar to bala sharks make them a great choice for a community set up. |

These fish are quite predatory to small fish (anything that can fit in it's mouth). I had a young Golden Wonder. I'd being trying to find a nice school of Beckfordi Pencilfish and finally got a lovely group of ten young ones. The Killie had scoffed 4 of them in under 30 minutes ]:| The Killie was exiled to my brother in laws tank immediately. Actually when I netted him (which was very easy he was incredibly tame) a pencilfish popped out of his mouth. This Killie was kept with full grown Rasboras for quite some time without problems , so depends on the size of the Emeralds. Apart from that, like most Rasboras they are hardy and easy to keep. Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

I'm not sure if speed would help. What I saw of the Killie he was a bit of stelth predator. He like to sneak up on them ! As i said these pencilfish were fairly tiny about 3/4 inch. He was fine with the Rasboras I had (Hengelis) which were full grown. Fairly mature Emeralds should be no problem they are a wee bit bigger then the Hengalis. Also I'm no Killie expert (only had the one !) so you can check with others. Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |
