Hi all, how's it going? I got a quick question. I have a 10 gal which I will prolly be retiring within the next several months, uprading to a 20L. What I was wondering is if figure 8s would be ok in there or If I would want to stick with dps. The wife would like some dps, but I think that f-8s might be better. Just wondering. Also, what do they eat? and another thing, their profile says brackish water. how much salt would be necesary to keep them? thanks in advance for your help.

The brackish water that they require is 1 cup of marine salt to 5 gallons. That gives the specific gravity of 1.005. Click here for some more information on them. Scroll to the bottom and click on T. biocellatus.

This is an article written by a man who has been keeping puffers for over 40 years. His longest lived F8 lived for 18 years!

You could keep 1 F8 in a 10g.

Hi again. OK then F8s are out. how many dps could go in there? I'm thinkin a small school, maybe 3 or 4 tops. They're freshwater fish, and will be easier anyways. F8s are cool little guys tho. thanks

I'm very glad to see you doing lots of research before getting your puffers! Make sure you cycle your tank, before getting them.
