I have one of those glass fish things but I was worried the bubble getting broken. Maybe I'll give it a try.

I finally took all the plants out today and bought him 2 plastic plants. I also found 2 plastic starfish in a box of old fish stuff, they just sit on the bottom.

I really, really like the Barbie head idea

I like the ping pong ball with fishing line attached to a rock idea

Well, here's a pic of 'his' tank as it is now. Kind of a playroom/junkyard theme He has some of those plastic aquarium gems, two plant baskets, Plankton on a crabby patty, two fake plants, a plastic dog chew toy, a plastic spoon, and a toy beach shovel. The last two are his favorites

id go with a ping pong ball on a string... some big cichlids that need to be alone sometimes like to have toys and often ping pong balls are used

I give my fish kernels of corn (cooked) they sink to the bottom and they are kinda slippery and it is just so funny to watch my fancy goldfish trying to eat one... he looks like a dog carrying a tennis ball... then he spits it out and chases it... my other fishes get in on the action too sometimes... its the "steal the slippery corn game"... eventually (after a couple of days) the corn gets beat up enough so that it is no longer slippery and then it is devoured. I usually drop in like 5 or 6 kernels at a time. Just a thought.. not as elaborate as the ping-pong barbie

The scalped barbie head is a powerful political statement as well. I like it (although I'm not going to do it myself, don't think it would look good in a planted tank).

Edit: Oh yeah, could you post a picture of that barbie head if you're doing it? Or anyone else if they've already got it?

Toys for fish..hmm..i think my daughter wouldn't like i took the head of her barbie dolls....
I have a model of "M/S Titanic" it's 75cm long..nah..i don't think i should putt that in my tank..i spend months building it..
Ping Pong balls sound good though..have to try that.

I know human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.

a ping pong ball would probly work, but you might not want a barbie head floating around in you fish tank if you have little girls around.

I believe the mystery cichlid is bored. He chases the Odessas, gets tired of that. Uproots plants, I replant them, he uproots again, I give up and leave them. I put a thermometer in the tank yesterday when doing a water change and left it so now he's playing with that.

Is there anything I can get him to mess around with that's safe for both him and a glass tank?

Maybe a ping pong ball with a hairless barbie head with a rock inside it or something dangling from it.

that's too tempting of an idea ! I could easily see it working though...ping pong ball threaded thru (might have to use a needle) with fishing line...add a small stone or a bit of water then seal it back up again with a dab of aquarium safe silicone...then add something to the end of the line...little airplane, space shuttle...random aliens or barbie heads .

I have this glass fish thing that floats around, my betta coccina like to head butt it. It's got a glass bubble, with fishing line hanging from it, and a glass fish that hangs from that in the middle of the tank. I probably wouldn't use anything so wimpy and delicate with tankbusters, but I would imagine the same sort of design could be used to make something a bit more rugged....

Maybe a ping pong ball with a hairless barbie head with a rock inside it or something dangling from it. I have had fish that liked to roll marbles around the bottom...

EDIT: Here's a link....my mom bought it for me.

glass fishy things

Something like a ping pong ball attached by string to a suction cup stuck on the bottom glass, it should float about in the middle. Maybe stick some food onto it.

Plants... my Oscars love to rip them out. I've tryed everything else, including divers, swimming toys that look like fish, pingpong balls and even a dinosaur(which scared the heck out of them!!) and nothing amuses them as much as some well anchored and tough 'weed'. If you cichlid loves plants, get some tough plants and let it play!

Oh, and the internal thermometer is a bad idea... i went through 3 before deciding i'd better find an alternative... no leaking mercury, but my boys managed to crack it very well!

Ping pong balls I think I remember as being used as fish toys....although you might want to try a barbie head ....kidding on the barbie head ...unless you cut the hair .
