my female bettas are leaving my neons/cardinals alone, but i let go a endler male go, and they seem to go after him, he is just alittle smaller than the neon/cardinals. is it that the cardinals/neons are in a school?

It may be so as that is one of the primary purposes of schooling to help lower the chances of any one individual becoming lunch. As they always say, safety in numbers.

That could be one reason. It could also be that your bettas have a taste for endlers as food. There's a lot of different reasons that your bettas may want endlers more than the tetras. I'd just recommend not having endlers in there...
