Just wondering, is it ok to use thawed frozen foods (e.g. brine shrimp, bloodworms, daphnia) over several feedings or even the next day?
I thaw frozen foods in a cup of tank water but most of the time a cube seems too much for one feeding. Rather than dumping the whole thing and let the fish will consume everything eventually, I thought maybe I could keep the leftoever in some tank water and leave it for the next feeding or overnight. Is this a bad idea?

Thanks!

It will be fine for a day or two, if kept in the fridge. But, do not use tank water, use tap water. As your tank water is full of bacteria that will start breaking the foods down quickly, even in the fridge. Use tap water to thaw the foods, and place what you don't use in the fridge for the next day use.

As has been said, it is ok to thaw some and feed over a day or two, but be sure to keep it in the fridge...Also when using your tap water to thaw the food in, don't use hot waterit may make it thaw faster, but I've found that it sometimes cooks what I'm thawing and fishies don't seem as anxious to eat it, and sometimes will even ignore it...hml

Thanks everyone. Wouldn't tap water contain chlorine and stuff though? Do you add conditioner to the tap water first before using it to thaw your food?

The chlorine is in too small amount to worry about. It will not harm the food, nor the fish. And, it will help to preserve the food better while overnight in the fridge.

There should be no problem keep it in a sealed container in the fridge for no longer than 24hrs.
