the worst part about that is the people that don't read the fine print and think they can have 5 goldfish in a 1 gal. I take care of a friends 12 gal and it took me months to make him realize that he couldn't have 20 fish in it. (just because the tank on the box had 20 fish in it)

That's one of the most frusturating parts of being an LFS employee. The customers pick out a tank, usually some small, neon colored starter kit, and then they start picking out fish, and when I tell them they realllllly shouldn't get that one...they're just like how come? They have it on the box, why can't I have my tank like that too?

Do you know how hard it is to explain to someone, that the brand name they know and trust has a misleading picture on the front?

It's especially hard when you're just a little over 5' and nowhere close to looking like an adult who might actually know what they're talking about...because kids, what do we know.

in the drs foster and smith catalogue, there is what i think is a 5 gallon tank, that has 10 anglefish pictured in it.

A lady at a place my gad goes to had a anglefish in a tank that was probably a 1/2 gallon high.

The dinensions were around this:

12"x3"x6"

Mind you, that angle was half of the size of the tank.

Yep This was on the Box of my tank and in the starter book that came with my setup! Very misleading to a beginner and very tempting to cram as many beautiful fish as you can to match the look on the box...

I love the new fishtank box at one of our LFS (not gonna name it, but most can figure it out)The box is labeled "Top Fin's New Goldfish 10 Gallon Tank" With plenty of fantails in the picture ....Yep, most have gotten it...oh the joys!!! Heidi

i just pulled out my 1.5 gallon hex tank for some molly fry that i arrived today. The picture on the box shows 3 gourmais (SP) that are almost the length of the tank itself...

it's not just the tank pictures either, it's on a lot of other products also, in our town, all the LFS have these tiny mesh dividers that show a huge oscar on one side, and a bunch of tiny angles on the other side, you can just see the oscar glaring at the angles, and if that oscar wanted, those angles would and COULD be lunch, i just find that ammusing at how stupid ppl can be, and notice on almost ALL tanks, they show a community planted tank or gold fish, or angles, yet you like, NEVER see the almighty Dovii, or JD, or GT, not even a front, it's just like almost all of the big boys have gotten the boot latly (cept those oscars )
