I currently have a cycled 29g tank that is empty. I would like some suggestions on some awesome fish to go in that 29g. I can't decide between some smaller species of cichlids, sharks or invertebrae. maybe even catfish.. I just dont know what I want to go in the tank. If someone could list some good combinations of fish that would be great for a 29g that would be fanastic . I just can't decide what I want to do with the tank and it's driving me insane. I'd like to have the wickedist combination of fish for it, that won't overload the tank.
thanks
-christine

There really isnt any shark that could fit in a 29. Maybe you could breed some apistos? Babies are always fun

Heres one mixture:
SAE, blue ram, honey dwarf gourami, 2 bronze cories, botia histronica, 6 rummy nose tetras.

Cories are social fish. I would drop either the botia or the SAE and bump up the cories to 6-8. Also, bronze cories get pretty large, there are smaller species out there.

Im sure you have already considered this but incase you havent...you could put a few smaller cichlids in a 29. possibly convicts or firemouths. You could then use the size of the tank to your advantage reducing aggression.

IIRC, overstocking only reduces the aggression in Mbunas. Overstocking also makes the tank get dirtier faster and can have adverse effects on fish health.

I really wouldn't try putting anything in with a pair of convicts in a 29. They'd just kill anything you put in.
Apistos -are- beautiful little fish, though. Apistogramma cacatuoides are, in my opinion, some of the prettiest fish out there.

I would go with 3 pearl gourami's, a ram (take ur pick), and 5 yoyo loaches or golden zebra loaches.

What is the pH and hardness of your water?

There are many things I could recommend depending on your water, and what you like the looks of.

Check out pix and bio's on these species
Blue Tetra (very active, schooling, pretty, stay small 2" or less.)
Blue Danios (active, sometimes a bit of a bully, shoaling, 2-2 1/2".)
Threadfin Rainbowfish (elegant, long finned, sometimes timid, schooling, 1.5"
Khulie Loaches (3 or more, can be "tamed", fast interesting swimmers, 3-4"
Pygmy Rasbora (not so sure on them behavior wise but they are goregous, small 1-1.5"

Go with a South American Planted tank & add some Corydoras, Tetras & Rams.

thanks for your ideas. I think I'm probably going to go with some smaller cichlids, but I already hav a convict, parrot cichlid,(in another tank) and a firemouth, so I wanted to get something different. I considered apistos but I went searching around today and wasnt lucky enough to find any in any of the stores I went to. None carried them. So I guess thats out of the question sadly. what other cichlids could I put in a 29g? is there any type of loach that could be put with a small cichlid?

Actually, most fish stores will gladly special-order fish that they don't normally carry if a customer asks them to. They might want you to pay in advance for the fish, but it'd be worth it. Even chain stores like Petco will do it.
