Do you mean how they show they are sleeping?

Most of my fish get paler and just sort of hover near the bottom at night. They aren't active... I guess that's all you can really tell. Fish don't have eyelids, except for sharks, so no fish really "sleep" in the way the dictionary defines it.

I guess it is better to call it "rest" than "sleep".

If you want to tell how your arowana sleeps, you might try shining a flashlight on it in the middle of the night. Cover the light with red cellophane, because supposedly fish can't see red light, or something.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I think it might be safer to say fish dont sleep they place themselves into a resting & yet alert state if not there are many night stalkers. Also most SW shark never sleep as they must have water pasing over their gills at all times.

They rest & don't sleep. They will stay motionless & in one place, but always on the alert.

My fish will always get pale and hover near the bottom of the tank or just hover mid water. My Rams would move around at night, but in no particular direction.

They seem unconcious to me...but if I turn the light on they "wake" right back up.

I would guess the Arowana swims aimlessly as it rests if you never find it "sleeping".

They sleep in their little water beds, with a snuggly teddy bear. ] Seriously folks, I know that my betta liked to sleep draped on a java fern leaf, or nestled head first in a clump of java moss.

they swim to their comfy place and close their little fishy eyes
I know my corries all "dogpile together" to sleep at night

My talapia turns from black and yellow to pale white at night and most of my fish rest on the bottom.

Depends on the fish. Many fish actually do go into a state of unconciousness, in which an aquarist can easily pick up the fish before it shows any sign of sensing stimuli.
