i've been having trouble with green water lately mainl becuase i think that i've been leaving the lights on too long.

commerical aqua leave thier lights on alot longer than me and there tanks are always spotless.

whats thier secert.. some are in constant daylight. some are not.

most run alot of tanks on the same kind of filtration and they usually run a large UV light to kill free floating algeas and bacteria.

A) These tanks have been set up for (usually) years, and aren't going through new tank syndrome problems.

B) In my work at least, tanks are given water changes/gravel vacs twice weekly. A similar maintenance schedule is probably in effect at most other stores.

C) Many of the tanks also run on canister filters rated for tanks beyond the ones they are running on.

D) Many of the tanks will have live plants in them, which will compete with the algae for light and nutrients.

E) Whenever customer traffic is slow, workers often do extra tank maintenance.

F) In addition to the twice weekly water changes, many other, smaller water changes are performed when fish (and tank water) are removed from a tank. "Used" water is removed along with the fish, and new, clean water goes back into the tank when it is topped off.

These are the main reasons (that I can think of) that most store tanks are clean. Hopefully your tank will clear up, but you can do some of the above to help. That is, if you're motivated enough.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

They must keep their tanks in pristine condition, as ppl may not want to buy fish if the tanks look bad. Don't know what else they may take home with them.
