Instead of trying to convince them that you need another tank, why not see if they would agree to trading up to a larger tank?

This would at least give you the option of adding additional fish and/or different types.

Not necessarily the perfect option, but at least it's an option to try.

No reason to say this problem sounds stupid, it's actually rather common on this site. We've designed some good arguments in the past, but the best thing I've found so far is to get your guardian hooked on fish. Try taking them to an aquarium or fish store and see if they don't think they're cool looking. Maybe then, they'll be willing to go up a little in order to take some of those awesome fish home with them...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

Do what i did. Save up $300 present the money to him/her and make a trip to your LFS with a 35gal in mind! it's enough to get everything you need and maybe some fish (after cycling)! Also remind your guardian that they HAD to be your age to make this descision and be your guardian! use the 10gal as a quarintene tank!!!

Hope this helps cjt

Or you can do what I did, watch your local classifieds, especially the garage sales. I found an awesome deal on my 55 because the guy was moving across the country soon and couldn't move it with all the fish. Moving sales are great places to find cheap aquariums because the people are desperate to get rid of them because they are hard to move long distances.
