I recently upgraded from a ten gallon that had 2 leopard danios, 2 zebra danios, and one bolivian ram to a 20 gallon.
I added these fish
2-gold rams
1 more bolivian ram
1 BN pleco
and 1 cory.

NOW i know that cory's like to live in groups of 6 or more, but ive had one before that lived forever and was a happy guy by himself.

Now, im willing to get him a friend, but im really not willing to add 5 more of those guys.

When my danios die off (which is kinda cruel to say, but i really dont like those fish, they are pretty annoying.

Is that bad?

Personally I dislike zebra danio's so I returned them to my lfs most lfs's will do this but will most likely not give you anything in return for them. I would not do neons choose another tetra unless you are set on having neons. Also neon tetra's are e to neon tetra disease which is uncurable and an outbreak would effect non-neons also causing death.

The stocking you have there is not bad.
However, regardless of whether you kept
1 cory before and it "seemed" happy, it
probably wasnt.
Corys should kept in a bare bare minimum of 4,
and I personally think 6 is better.
If you have chosen a smaller species of cory,
then you could add at least 2-3 more corys.
If you have chosen a larger species of cory
like bronze/albino, peppered, or metae,
I would return the lone cory to the pet store.
It really isnt fair to those fish to be kept alone.
they really are strongly gregarious fish, and will
be very unhappy alone.
Even better, maybe just consider removing the cory
back to the pet store, and when you go there, take the
danios too. You could probably trade them for some
food or store credit.

well, when I got home from work today, i thought my cory was dead. he was laying on his side by this fake grass plant. i went in to remove him, and found him to be quite alive, only stuck on the plant. somehow he swallowed a strand of the grass and it was coming out of his gills. i carefully helped him off and banished that plant from my tank. I feel bad for the little guy.
So i went to the store and bought the last pair of panda cory's they had. At least I now have 3, and will most likely try and find another or so, so they arent lonely.

With all the advice against the neons, i think ill stay away from those.
My danios are rather old, ive had them for 2 years, and i dont think my pet store would take them, ill let thim live out thier live.

What about harlequin raspboras? I thought they were pretty.

Well,
Glad to hear you got more pandas!
They are super cute corys,
and one of the smaller varietys.
I think harle's would be a good choice
for you. They are small, pretty, and active.

You can try to exchange the Danios for more Corydoras at your LFS.

like i said before, these danios are well over 2 years old. They are bigger than any regular danio, and they have scars from fights with my bigger fish. Id rather keep them and let them live out their life, since it says they live to be about 2 years.

The panda cory's i got last night, are so small. they are cute.

regarding the comment about neon tetras living for only 3 days.

you obviously did something wrong. just because you had your fish die in 3 days, it doesn't mean they're not hearty, it means you killed them somehow.
