ok, prospective loadout:

29 gallon TALL tank

7 corys (about 2" each)
6 lemon tetras (1.8" each)
1 Bolivian Ram (2.8"
2 Red Sunset Dwarf Gouramis (2.7"? each)

should this be ok? the ram and gourami get along fine, the gourami just runs and hides, and the ram will only chase off someone when it trys to steal its food, he wont even nip when he does though. the loadout i have right now gets along well other than the male dwarf is super shy, hides most of the time, i am hoping by adding a companion that may make him more outgoing/happier.

all i will be adding is a female to the mix, i will be rescaping the tank when i add the female (pulling all the fish out, thurough gravel vac, and re scaping that tank with new driftwood and rocks, so new territorys will be established).

will everyone be happy???

i think that sounds ok... the female that you're planning to add, is that a ram or a gourami? if it's a ram, i dont think it will present a problem if you follow the steps you mention, but if it is a gourami that could be another story... i would probably suggest to only have one female and one male, or several females and one male, just to minimize any territorialness/aggression. or, if the two males you have right now are getting alone, why not just leave it at that, and if you hope to breed or something in the future, you could set up a separate little tank (which would probably be necessary anyways).

other than that, it sounds like it will be a very nice tank!

good luck

female gourami. the male gourami needs company. so, when finished, it will have:

2 Dwarf Gourami, 1 male 1 female
1 bolivian ram
6 lemon tetras
7 corys

i hope this wont be over crowding...can anyone confirm that for me?

oh okay, sounds good. i don't think that will be overcrowded, as long as it's well-filtered and you're regular with water changes, etc...

go for it!

thanks! and yes, weekly 30% water changes, and two over the back filters(each one meant for a 20-50 gallon tank, lol) and a air stone. ph is buffered and stays at a healthy 7.0, havent dealt with any measurable nitrates since the tanks first cycle, and other than being a lovely yellow color from tannins released from the driftwood, the wtaer is excellant.

not to mention the carbon in the filters are changed out every 1-2 weeks, and the carbon i use has ammonia absorbing resin in it, and i have a combination of floss and sponges, i change the floss when it gets nasty, the sponge stays to the bottom to keep the bacterial colonys intact when i change the floss.

the nice thing about having two large filters is i can change the media without crashing the tank, lol.

so yeah, i spose i keep up with tank matainence
