It's definitely overstocked...those are going to get pretty big, and once they start growing you'll have problems...and if they don't grow, you'll have even bigger problems because it's not healthy for their growth to be stunted from being kept in a tank that's too small.

ok, we keep harping on about how goldfish arent suitable for small aquaria and there is one overwhelming reason this is so.

Goldfish (and koi too) are unusual in that both species excrete higher levels of ammonia through the gills than almost any other fish in proportion to their size, quite simply its almost impossible to maintain them indefinately in a small volume of water without them suffering the effects of ammonia poisoning. Its also the major reason that you shouldnt combine them with other species of fish.

Add this to the other factors like size, and you really need no other reasons to compel you into thinking that they are pond fish, not aquarium fish- unless you have the finances to provide them with a tank of over 100 gallons with a filter that would cost you over £200.Even then when mature they would still really need to be in a pond. Dont forget goldfish regularly live to over 20 years , but most aquarists who keep them in aquaria will lose them in less than 2 -5 years. Thats like you never surviving past your teens because of being forced to live in a box with reduced airflow, and having to breathe in the fumes from your own waste. Think about it- its not pleasant.

my neighboor know i had fish and so one day he was moving and asked if i wanted his fish, a 17 year tri fancy goldfish i think she is!!!! iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnn a 15 gal tank, with 2-3 inches of gravel !!!!! i nearly had a heart attack!!!! i tested the water and the ammonia was off the chart in just 3 drop of test solution!!!!! and the nitrites were off the chart of course!!! so i put her in a 5 gal bucket with a flu#2 ammo-carb media and changed the half the water three times a day for nearly a week and then i put her in my 20 gal tank that was an already established tank(by herself) all her fins are deformed so i still really dodn't know what she really is
