Hi... I have a fairly small aquariun and I was wondering if someone might be able to give me instructions on setting it up for maye 2 puffers... they're just the cutest little things and i've wanted some for years now! also, any recommendations on specific breeds? i need a hardier one, i'm not the luckiest with fish, i'm sad to say...

Any idea how many gallons your aquarium is? Without knowing that, it's really hard for us to make a suggestion on a type of puffer.

I'd say it's about 5 gallons. It's one of those small "kits" that come with the hood and light and filter... also, I currently have a snail in there (and not a small one), will that be a problem?

In a 5 gal, you could keep a few dwarf puffers. Puffers aren't for the beginner aquarist though. If you haven't had much luck w/fish, then you need to find out why, before delving into more demanding, exotic fish. See: http://www.dwarfpuffers.com

I agree in that dwarf puffers would be the best fit for you there, but be careful with them. I always encourage people to research fish a lot before buying them, as this process can help you decide whether or not a certain fish is the one you want.

Your tank sounds like one of those Eclipse setups, with the built-in filter and everything. Also, the snail won't be a problem.

Welcome to the site!

Hey, thanks once again, this time for the warm welcome... i was a little concerned that the puffers might eat the snail (i've read that they like them as a staple in their diet), but you have eased my mind!

Be prepared to sacrifice the snail as pufferfood...

A puffer will try and eat/attack a snail of any size. If you want your snail to live i'd recomend a new home if your gonna get puffers.

They may not eat your larger snail right away, but they will pick it to death.

Hmmm... it is a larger snail, perhaps I will move him elsewhere. He's pretty hardy, has been with me for a while, I'd hate to see him be tortured to death!

Yes, having bits of flesh eaten off you untill you slowly died may be torture to most, but my large apple snail never flinched.
