Is it possible to have a school made up of different color varations. This is kind of a general question. Could you have 4 black skirt tetras and 4 white skirt? Or 3 albino cories and 3 normal? Or even mossy and normal tiger barbs?

Generally you should have atleast 6 of each color variation. cories school by color pattern, tiger barbs are known to discriminate against other varients, and so on.

that was what I was leaning towards. I wasn't sure if you get a school of fish, if you have to get all of one color, or if you could mix.

This would be fine. I have successfully kept a school of Moss green tiger barbs and also the normal tiger barbs as well.

It is good to have a few of each so they can school together tho. That way you get a few of the same fish yet different colours. Making the tank more colourful.
