So we live in Portland, Oregon and as some of you might know we don't get to much light during the winter. So when we set up our first tank, during winter, we didn't think too much about direct sunlight. But recently we have had a serious algae problem. Our phosphates are high so we bought a filter insert to help that. We cut back on feeding and light and do 40% water changes at least every week. BUT THE ALGE WILL NOT DIE! As I sit here thinking about how to resolve the problem I see the three windows to left shining right into the tank. Do you think this is the cause of the problem? Can I resolve it with out moving the tank and keeping some light in my house? If not, how the heck do I move my 30-gallon tank? Any help would be wonderful.

Hey a fello oregonian. moving a 30 gal tank is no problem, just put your fish in a bucket or something, and drain the water, probley wont have to take the gravel out, and just get two people and move it. I would try and save some of the water in other buckets to put back in. My wife and i move 55, 60, 25, 120, 10, 35 quite a bit, she cant make up her mind where she wants them. Ha Ha
good luck

yup...direct sunlight and if u overfeed...r sources of algae...moving the tank like that is a sinch...as what have said....just put the fish and plants(if any) in a bucket...then save as much water as possible to avoid cycling ur tank again. gudluck

Direct sunlight is your problem. You can move the tank to another place & remember that you musn't move the tank with water. Drain all the water & then put it back.
