This is posted in the wrong forum....You should have put it in General Freshwater, I believe.

You can't add anything to your tank. It's overstocked as it is, I believe, but I'm not an expert, so I'm sure someone will help you out more than I can.

Nope, you can't add any more fish, and in fact, you will probably have to take several of the fish out.

Chinese Algae Eater: Grows to over 10 inches long. Gets aggressive with age. Should be kept in no less than a 75 gallon tank.

Dwarf Flame Gourami: Perfect for a 29 gallon tank.

Bala Shark: Grows to 14 inches long. Schooling, and very skittish. Can easily break the glass if startled. Should be kept in no less than a 125 gallon tank.

Pictus Catfish: Grows to about 4 and a half inches. Will fit in a 29 gallon tank, but it should be kept in a species tank, as it will eat any smaller tankmates. A shoaler.

Swordtails: Livebearer that grows to about 2-3 inches. Should be kept in a ratio of 1 male to 2 females to keep stress to a minimum. A good community fish for a 29 gallon.

Convict Cichlid: Grows to about 5 or 6 inches. A single pair can be kept in a 29 gallon. Becomes very very aggressive when spawning, and will probably kill everything else in the tank.

Zebra Danio: A small shoaler. Perfect for a community tank.

From your tank, these are the fish that must go:
Chinese Algae Eater
Bala Shark
At least 4 of the convicts.

From your current fish, you could set up a convict species tank (with only two convicts, 1 male, 1 female. Be prepared for fry, though), or a pictus species tank (In which case you would need to up the number of fish to about 6 or so).

Probably the easiest route would be to get rid of the Balas, the CAE, all the convicts, and all the pictus. Return them to your LFS, and they should give you store credit.

It would probably be a good idea to then fill out the danio school (6+) and add another gourami or two. You could also add some more swordtails, but be prepared for a lot of fry with those.

I'd think about subtracting before adding. those convicts I'm sure are small now but as they get bigger they'll pair off and start breeding unless by some chance you happened to get all males or all females. once they start breeding and get bigger they'll start killing your other fish. the most dominant pair will start by killing the rest of the cons and I'd suspect the gourami will be next.

bala sharks are a schooling/shoaling fish that can grow to 13" long and really belong in at least a 6' tank. the chinese algae eater could very well turn aggressive as it reaches it's ~8-10" adult size.

if I were you I'd keep the gourami, danios and swordtails and trade in the rest of your fish to a good lfs or sell/give them to someone in your area. then I'd get at least 3-4 more danios and a couple more swordtails. I'd try for 1 male sword and 2-4 females. if you want some catfish you could add a small school (6-8) of some type of corydoras and if you want a cichlid a blue/gold/german ram should be fine. a keyhole cichlid could also probably work in your setup and that would give you a similar look to your convicts. oh and a bristlenose pleco or group of ottos should work great in your tank and will wind up doing a better job long-term of keeping the tank free of algae.

*edit...just saw you had two threads on this. I'm going to delete the other post since this one had more responses.

thereis a funny story I went into a chinnes restrunt and the guy said he would give me 2 convict cichlids but when he gave me the fish he put 6 insted of 2 and he was going to give me 2 13 inch sliver arowanas. the alge eater was in a 10 gallon tank. I have a 10 gallon with 1 alge eater 1 commen pleco 3 guppies 3 sliver tiped tetras 2 black neon tras. Is that 10 gallon tank overstoked. I have a 2.5 gallon tank with 1 betta 1 bamboo shrimp. I think that is a little much is it.

Your ten gallon is WAY over stocked. Your alge eater will get very very long, your common pleco can get 18"+, the tetras and the neons should be in schools of (5) I believe....plus, your guppys have the potential to breed and then all of the sudden you will have a tank full of fry...

Your 2.5 gal is overstocked as well, Bamboo shrimp need more room, and they are filter feeders, so they need at least 20 gals (I think) But you can ask Megil about them. The Betta should be fine in there alone, or if you really feel the need to add something, you can add an African Dwarf Frog.
