Wal-mart is my kind of neutral store, not too expensive, not too cheap. I don't buy fish there(african frogs for 4 bucks?), but their medicine and accessories are really cheap.
lfs aquarium salt==$3.00

walmart aquarium salt==$1.19 and its rollback(ooo...)

getting your shopping done, your nails, hair done, and your lunch done in one store?---priceless

for everything else...theres...[you know what i mean]

I e-mailed them & made a complaint through the website & the manager(finally)called me.We spoke of the matter with the unacceptable manner these fish are cared for. He states that he rarely goes to "that side" & did not realize it was "that bad." "The tanks are to be cleaned every Monday & will personally make sure the gentleman has it done."
I asked if he was aware of the fungus & ich which is a severe problem with keeping these fish alive. He states it will be taken care of. I am just wondering ---For how long- We'll wait & see....
I also wonder if these fish get fed everyday? Fish really have it bad.

We have the same problem with algae at our Walmart, you can't even see into half the tanks due to the out of control growht. Even worse, our Walmart, and even Petco has started selling chanel catfish, who are expected to reach 27+ inches. It's just cruel.

idk it ate 5 comets

aw c'mon at least know something is true before posting it. A ten inch koi is pretty darn unlikely to be eating comets. and even if it did eat 5 TINY comets, it certainly would not account for ten inches of growth. It is just a little more mature fish than what they typically sell, but not out of the norm. I have seen koi that size at my wal mart, still just babies as far as Koi go.

Koi

Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn.

If I had a way to report my local Wal-Mart. I would! The tanks are green from algae,etc- even with fish in the tanks! I thought I would try an experiment to see if they would sell some fish to me when CLEARLY they were infested with ICK. Sure enough. POOR FISH-It made me sick-truely disgusting. I agree that they should stop with the fish OR have people separate taking care of only the fish.
Its also clear they dont clean the tank nor have any scheduled maint. for them. If I could only get pictures of them for u! AGH! I've asked several employees about it & I got an "It doesn't matter" attitude. Could u imagine how the water tests!

Why buy fish to sell to people if your not going to take care of them? I know.... To infect others tanks & kill their healthy fish.
Sorry. I had to get that out.I have two Wal-marts where I am from & one is ALOT worse than the other.I'm not saying ALL wal-marts are like this.Who knows some may aacually care.

My local, big box store had a fish tank last time I was in there with Oto Cats attacking the Gouramis and Tetras. The Otos would have looked like really aggressive fish to the casual observer. I researched this at home later that night and figured out that the Otos must have not be getting any algae and were probably sucking on the fins of other fish to extract some. On the other hand, I needed some fish supplies for a water change at 11pm and they met that need, cheaply.

I used to work at a chain store, and I ran the small animal/fish department. LOTS of dead fish counts get done even when the best of care is taken with them. One of the main problems is the stress of the way they are shipped from the suppliers. Sometimes bags come in and half the fish in the bags are dead. Then you dump these huge bags of fish through huge nets over 5 gallon buckets, and right into their selected slots. Very, very stressful times for the poor fish. Buying when they first stock seems great because there is such a vast selection, but your odds of survival are MUCH slimmer. Some suppliers have poor stock too, which leaves the lfs fighting everything from ick to internal parasites to finrot from day 1 with their new shipment. I must admit though, I have "saved" some of the sick fish and after some TLC I have ended up with great fish out of it (not that I would EVER suggest to buy sick fish), but as I used to work there, anything that was about to make a one way trip out the back door instead of the front was free to come home with me. Other than fish I saved a guinea pig, a cockatiel, an iguana, a white's tree frog, 2 water dragons, some mice, a gerbil, and on and on... too many to list.

yeah, the fish don't necessarily die because it's the shop's fault. A lot of the time the supplier the shop has to buy fish from gives them unhealthy fish. That was the case at the pet store I worked at. We had the same routine, pulled lots of dead fish. Not a fun part of the job, but it helps keep the rest of the fish healthy.

i had bought my guppies online because i wanted pure strain gup's to raise,,i bought my catfish from walmart even though seemingly starved i fattened them up rather quickly and now their laying eggs for me and none of them have died, i noticed a coupla of dead fish in two different tanks of theirs but not the ones i got the corys out of..and its not ment to (bash)any walmart or lfs but in my opion every store ive ever been to seems to want to sell their fish quick and dont seem to take the necessery steps to even keep there fish properly fed because all of the ones i go to seem like the fish are starving to death or skinny, then again if more fish have been put into a tank that seems (clean) and they start contracting what ever might have been in there before might be a reason too..i dont know speculation on my part i guess..

Mine was terrible for a long time. I swear, one time, I walked in, and FOUR tanks of goldfish were ALL dead. I can only imagine they had problems with R/O or something... or someone thought a funny prank would be to pour cyanide in there... they used to have dead fish in other tanks that looked like they'd been dead for days, and once a tank infested with ich with no quarantine label on it. Now, though, it seems to have cleaned up. Looks like somebody complained to them before I did.

a wal-mart moved in right down the street from the petsmart i work at and all the time people come to us telling how wal-mart sold them the wrong supplies.

ive had that happen at least ten times, and im glad the customers wanted to get information from different sources, but they wished they wouldve came to us first.

but its good knowing there are wal-marts with knowledgable employees

Wal-Mart great for fish here too. I've never spoken with her personally but according to other employees I've talked to the manager of the pet department here is an avid hobbiest and she takes wonderful care of the fish/tanks in my local store. I get lots of fish there.. Most recently I bought a group of ottos and didn't lose a single one. That never happens when I buy Ottos from anywhere else.

Everytime I've ever noticed Ich in a tank (which is rare) they always have "FISH NOT FOR SALE" signs posted all over the tanks. They wouldn't even sell the plants they had in stock one time due to a possible disease outbreak.

Yeah it's truely amazing. They even refuse to sale pacus ,koi, iredescent sharks, and even clown loaches as the guy told me most people that buy fish from Wal-Mart simply do not have large enough tanks to accomidate these fish.

The one here recently killed something like 200 goldfish, basically all of them they had. Someone had put water straight out of the tap into the tanks with no dechlorinator in it.
