it was fine on thursday, then yesterday it was just sitting there halfway out of its shell, and it has been the same ever since..

do they normally do this, or is it dead?

Could it be old age? Or the temp was too high?

If it smells it's dead. If it doesn't leave it in the tank. Sometimes mine will sit half open but usually a few hours later they've moved.

The snails at work sometimes do that, but if I touch them they go back into their shells. Like Sham said, if it is truly dead, it will rot quickly so you'll have to get it out of there.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Try to see if it moves & if you think it's dead, just take it out of your tank, as soon as you can.

i think it is dead.

im gonna give it another day.. and pull it out tommorow, and probably do some water changes on both tanks.

It is kinda wierd how it would just die, i mean, it was fine on thursday when i did a gravel vac.

When i was taking the water out, the snail stayed in the same spot, and the water went below him.. that couldnt of killed him.. could it? (i really dont think it would)

Also, could of it been the dechlor. i put in? I used novaqua.

Snails can climb out of water. Yesterday I found one of my ivories on the carpet so it fell about 4' then sat there overnight. It was tucked all the way in it's shell and the shell was completely dry. I tossed it back in the tank and within an hour it was walking around. I always have 5 or so snails hanging around above the water line when I do water changes. Trust me if you pick up the snail and smell it you will have no question whether it is dead. It is one of the worst smelling things you'll come across. If it falls apart in your hand the smell lingers for hours even if you wash them 5 times. If it doesn't smell horrible then leave it alone for a few days and check again.
