Do you want schooling fish...?

It seems as if you're going for color, have you thought about gold or belted barbs? Maybe some cool cories? Or a school of harlies or rummies?

What are YOU interested in...?

I'd say try some of the smaller corys. Most of them can handle quite a range and IMO there's nothing cuter than corys. They're active and fun to watch and I'd think your gf would like them just as much as you would. They'll like the sand bottom and will balance the neons on the top. Something for the middle will fill it out nicely I'd think.

If you can find them, either Garnet or Cochu's blue tetras would be awesome. Those fish are beautiful schooling tetras, and will certainly brighten up your tank.

Also, I will have to recommend that you get some cories. Again, if you're looking for some of the harder-to-find ones, then adolfoi or elegans cories would be worth your while. It all depends on what you like.

I would suggest Rummynose Tetra or a school of Corydoras.
