I would assume that a bowfront aquarium would force you to percieve your fish as ditorted when you are looking at them. Possibly the joints that connect the "bow" to the remainder of the tank, I would think would be weaker than the other seals (assuming that the tank is not one piece). Of course if the tank is acrylic, the surface is scratched extremely easily.

There are many many options, too many to list them all.

I would suggest you peruse the tetra profiles here and elsewhere, maybe you even have a book with descriptions and pictures of them. They make nice schools.

Also, Rasboras are a good schooling fish.

Centerpiece fish, also many options, how about Gouramies? One male and one female though.

There are many tetras you could choose. You could have two schools or just one big school. Like LF said, take a look at the profiles on here and then go to the fish store and see what they have. You want to get an idea about what you want and then see what's available. Rasboras are also very nice. I am thinking about getting them for a 48 gallon I am getting soon.
For centerpiece you could have a gourami, an angel (only suggest one), or Rams (German or Bolivian)...though they are smaller. There are also many options.
What kind of substrate do you have? What kind of lighting? And do you plan to have plants or aquascape (add driftwood or rocks) the tank?
