Hello all. I finally got to buy some things i have been wanting to buy for my fish. I got a bottle of Seachem's Prime. I know the disgusting odor is normal but what about those black specs in it. I read about it but cant remember what they are for. Another thing i bought is some Biozyme. I bought this because i will be changing my substrate on saturday. The Biozyme looks and smells like sawdust. Is this normal? I added a little bit of the "sawdust and it seemed like the fish ate it. Will this be a problem when trying to add some after i change my gravel?

the biozyme should smell earthy, and i'd say it would have little specs in it like most starters.

I can't help you with the Prime, but I don't think it should have black specs in it

clownloachfan,

Prime should definately not contain some specs. It is a completely clear liquid. Something is wrong with your bottle. Are you sure it was completely closed when you got it?

And some of us like the smell of Prime (or is that just me ).

Hope this helps,

Ingo

I saw black specks on the bottom of my newly opened bottle of Prime as well. Just went to the Seachem support page and saw the first FAQ: http://seachem.com/support/FAQs/Prime_faq.html
Probably something precipated from the sulfur.

Wow Paulus,

Good find

I guess I will have to take a good look into my Prime bottle to see if I find any specks as well (I doubt it, but I might faint from the fumes instead ).
