E-bay - E-Bay - and did I mention E-Bay?

That's the first place I would look for a new tank.

Apistos would be nice in a 20 along with a small school of tetras. I know you said you don't like tetras, but there are some really pretty ones.

What about:
2 blue or bolivian rams
1 bristle nose pleco or other small pleco
8 harlequin rasboras or small barbs (Not tiger barbs though as they are nippy)

I got my 25G tank from Petcetera for 88.88 CAD, or around 67 USD. I paid 39.99 for my 10g kit, came with hob filter, pump, heater, lid, tank, food.
Where do you live Peter? Canada or USA? If in canada go to petcetera, they are the best prices on tanks.
Right now they have 33g tanks for 119.96 with HOB filter, top, lights, heater, air pump and stones, and food and net.
Thats about 90 USD.

Why have you decided against Bolivian Rams?
They are awesome fish I have 5!

Bolivian Rams are excellent! I have one, but they can be kept in a pair. You may need some dither fish of some sort, a less common tetra perhaps. I myself have regular and gold pristellas for that purpose.

Consider a small species of plecostomus, there are several to choose from; they'll help keep the tank clean from algae.

I've found that when buying tanks and/or supplies, PetsMart is actually cheaper than PetCo. WalMart is even cheaper. However, I *strongly discourage* buying fish from these stores.

hey guys iam finally buying another tank and fought it out with my parents until they caved! so now that i finally have permission i need some ideas...right now i have saved up 75$ and while i know that thats not really enough iam pretty close...i would liketo purchase a 20 gallon tank or no smaller than a ten but preferbaly a 20 (us). does anyone know where a good deal might be...i like petco so far...but their on the steeper end although quality kicks in..another place iam wondering about is wal-mart. i bought my 10 gallon there for about 40$ and dont remember if they had a 20g or what the price might be...i looked on their website and they didnt show a 20g but iam almost posotive that they had one...if anyone can find a good price for me on a website like petco, petsmart or walmart i would appreciate it...

Now for the second part of my post..i need some stocking ideas...i like rams and wanted to buy them for my 10 but laied off when i looked at the adult size because i wanted a community tank as my first tank..i like catfish and would maybe like to get a SOLITARY cat because i already have cories...i want maybe like 2 meduim fish and a school? along with the cat. well if you could give me your ideas for the WHOLE tank and not just some i wuld appreciate it..

Now some tips thast i need...when going through the cycle does it go faster when you have some fish in there? i want it to go as fast as possible...so i can get to the picking ou of the fish..

Well thanks for reading my post...hope you have some ideas...

TIA Peter

Is your tank a twenty high or a twenty long? The long tank will allow you to keep more fish, because there is more surface area for gas exchange.

Well, rams aren't from Africa. You can still keep them in your tank, though. Both Bolivian and German rams are happiest in male/female pairs, so you could get a pair of them. Other fish could include hatchetfish, pencilfish, sparkling gouramis, perhaps a few upside-down catfish (if your tank is a twenty long, which will provide more horizontal space), or you could even go with African shelldwelling cichlids. There are more choices, I'm just throwing random ideas out there. See anything that you like?

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

how abt pesmart..they sell here a 20g tetra "top fin" brand for less than a cad 100...and its a complete kit. i bought mine there (10g) for just cad 62 (the cheapest..better than walmart).

regarding cycle...its really just patience...fishless cycle indeed somehow shorter than with fish...by a week or so.

if u really want short cycle...u may use biosupport (bacterial colony) like bio-spira, cycle, etc (i like seachem "stability"-that one really help my unstable cycle)

stocking?? ...hmm...well..that depends...u may put tetras in there like the common neons or cardinals... the barbs like rasboras. dont know much abt solitary catfish.

Look in your local classifieds, there are often people giving away tanks or selling them cheaply. My local Walmart has no 20g but they have a 29g kit for about $100.
I believe the fishless cycle is a lot faster than one with fish.
