I was thinking of breeading bettas i all ready got a male and a femail so i think they will work so now i need to no if i can raise the fry with out live food i dont no if i can get any of that stuff see i live in canada sask and i dont have much for put stores i finaly got a femail and the closest place that had them was 220kms but any way i put my femail in a pop bottle with the mail in a 1g fish boal just to see what they do and the mail got mad well i think he did that thing with his head like opens up the gills and the femail just wiggled around and swam just looks like she dident see him i only put the pop bottle in for 5min but is this normal?

bettas are not the best "starter fish" for spawning to be honest with you. I think that if you're new to fishkeeping it is probably best to get a few other easier species under your belt before you attempt them. They can be tricky. The male and female can potentially kill one another, they fry are small when they hatch, they can be eaten by the parents and are often susceptible to disease at a young age.

In my opinion they do require some kind of live food as fry, although they have been raised on totally prepared foods. If the only fry foods you can get are dried or liquid, bettas are probably not for you. If you are REALLY set on spawning bettas, you'll need to do a lot of research.

i bacicaly know how to breed them but my problem is the access to live foods i think i will order them from my lps so i hope they can order them.
