i don't know of any snails that are dangerous but if there small red snails they can be a bit annoying cause they breed so readily and they can be hard to get rid of]:|

They are probably little pond snails and will multiply so long as there is a bit of extra food for them. They can be very very prolific and fill your tank. The only damage they really do is to munch on the plants a bit when they get hungry. I guess if you completely left the population alone they might multiply beyond your tanks biological filter capacity. Smashing a few every week works for me and the fish love to eat crushed snails.

A large of amount of snail killed in a small tank by med or chemicals can sometimes lead to significant ammonia spike. Just something to think about when using chemicals.

i had snails in my tank for a while and when there numbers grew to large i simply caught them and threw them out! heh took a while but it's easier that treating and doing full clean/water change!

And go the peace pipe! hehe

The reason everyone is suggesting ways to kill them is eventually you will have too many. These guys multiply 100s at a time and lay eggs nonstop. If you don't do something to keep the population in check now they will eventually pose a serious problem. In my little pond outside I haven't done anything to kill them and the whole side of the container is just coated in baby snails. Eventually all the snail waste will pollute the water and having too little to eat for that many snails they will destroy your plants. You can keep them around though without wiping them out by just crushing a few every so often or pulling them out. I have some in all my tanks but the tank with yoyos. They can actually be beneficial so long as they aren't allowed to take over.

I have about five species of snail in my tank (pond snails, Malaysian trumpet snails, ramshorn snails, big long spiral-shelled snails, and limpets), and none of the populations are out of control. They do not eat the plants either. I squash them occasionally, but only so my fish can have a treat and not because the snails are overpopulated.

As long as you have an established tank and do not overfeed, there is no reason why the snails should become out of control.

Here are some of my snails...
