They can be very very prolific and fill your tank. The only damage they really do is to munch on the plants a bit when they get hungry. I guess if you completely left the population alone they might multiply beyond your tanks biological filter capacity. Smashing a few every week works for me and the fish love to eat crushed snails. Just something to think about when using chemicals. |

They do not eat the plants either. I squash them occasionally, but only so my fish can have a treat and not because the snails are overpopulated. As long as you have an established tank and do not overfeed, there is no reason why the snails should become out of control.
