i have a heavily planted 20 gallon tank.

right now the stocking is:

2 rosy barbs
3 tiger barbs (i am going to add more)
1 rainbow shark
1 upsidedown catfish

some of the plants in the tank have algae on there leaves, it is not hair algae and it isn't the really slimy kind either, it is more of a brownish color.

i am wondering if dwarf otocinclus would eat this, and if they would be compatible with the other fish.

also, how many tiger barbs would be good for that tank. i used to have 6 but then the tank got ick.

Ocats would be an excellent choice for algae control. They are hands down in my opinion the best cure for algae ever.I just wish they were a larger fish so I could use them in my cichlid tanks instead of pleco's. As to how many tigers, in a 20 with your current stocking I would say no more than 8 total, otherwise you risk crowding your tank. 8 will still give you a nice mini school and still allow the other occupants of your tank room to live.

i have to agree...adding 2 otos will do the trick...definitely add more TBs to restrain the nipping with other fish... as for rainbow shark...20g is too small for it..there will be insufficient space for it to swim if it gets bigger...even with the upsidedown cat...kinda so so in there as well.

Otos will do a great job with Algae & Barbs need to be in schools & so you can add 6 more.

As already stated, the Rainbow Shark will need a bigger home in the near future.

A forty gallon tank is large enough for a rainbow shark. They don't usually get larger than five inches, so you'll have plenty of room for it.

Just make sure you have a dark palce for it to hide and get away from the tiger barbs
