aren't fishes such as rams(even though they are cichlid) and rainbow fishes classed as peaceful, but yet when i added a minnow to the tank for about 2 mins, the rainbows ate his fins, and the ram ate it. i could understand the ram since it is a cichlid, but rainbow fish.

I think that all fish eat other smaller fish & your Minnow wasn't an exception.
If it fit's in their mouth............... they'll eat it.

Yeah, they are both usually peaceful. However, if your rainbows were much bigger than the minnow, I'm not surprised that they picked on it. It's a fish-eat-fish world out there, you know. Once the minnow had been weakened, the ram just saw it as food, not a tankmate. Minnows tend to not do well in tropical tanks anyways, as they are cool/coldwater fish.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

i am now stuck with about 15 minnows, that have to be moved somewhere. i prefer not feeding live fish to other fish, but the tank that i have them in now isn't cutting it b/c aaround 2-3 die aday with the amonia etc. so i have really no choise but to scare them and try butting them in with my feeder fish, or as a food item with other fish. probably either way they will be eatten.

i thought you were against feeding live fish to your fish??

i understand in thw wild that is how they eat, but with captive bred fishes that i have, i do not feed my feed other fish.(or live n.e way). it is just something i will not do!
