I have 2 large hanging plants and 4 little ones over my fish tank and above them (because there is no light in that room) I have a grow light. I'm sure the light hits the tank water and was wondering if I need to worry about it? I have the tank light and the grow light both on at the same time for 10 hours. Thanks for any advise

I doubt it will hurt anything. At worst, it may just encourage the growth of algae (green, especially), so I would just keep a wary eye on my algae growth and shut it down ASAP with an algae eater of some type...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

I just noticed some algae on one of my fake plants. (I'm slowly but surely replacing the fake with real.) I just finished cycling my tank, which took 2 days short a month, and this is the first sign of algae, I'm looking towards oto's but haven't looked into who they do and don't get along with. I plan on having: panda corys, harlequin rasboras, platys, blue rams, flame tetras, upside down cat fishes, dwarf gouramis, and checkered barbs. Right now I only have platys. Do you think oto's would work, or maybe a dwarf pleco? I have a 75 gallon tank. THANKS

I highly recommend otto's compared to dwarf plecos. For most people, they can be a tad sensitive, but mine have survived very well in my 55 without me changing my maintenance (or lack thereof) in the least...

Otos will work fine & they'll munch on the Algae alot. A BN would also be very good at Algae cleaning.

Hi Mia,

Be careful with dwarf plecos. Most of them are only algae eaters when they are very young, especially the more colorful ones.

Otos are your best bet.

If you are graduating to live plants, they'll help slow algae growth too.

Good luck,

Carl
