I got looked @funny the one time I tried playing with one @a LFS ...
A bit tough to pull, and I was worried about the sound vibrations bothering the fish :%)....but I've been meaning to get one to hold my powerheads for quite some time now .

I vote yes, but it really depends IMO...if its algae that just grew it will be ok, but if the algae is stuck there, then it takes ages to get rid of it.

Yep. Have one for every tank. Very handy & fun to watch the fish chace it when you clean the glass

They work very well, definately worth buying. Got to be careful about getting gravel stuck onto it, as it may scratch the glass.

Love mine. Keep it attached to the glass in a back corner of the 125G. Easy availability makes me clean the glass more often.

if you use a magnet thats too big for the tank it will go through backgrounds.

you can test them out in the LFS.

I also use the magnafloat

Most people generally don't scrape the algae on the back of the tank, but I would say yes, you would have to remove the background so it would not get messed up.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.
